Always curious…
The Curious Chamber Players have, since their inception in 2003, explored a diverse array of contemporary music repertoire: encompassing hard-core modernism to graphically notated chance music, from minimalism to complex noise music, and from electronics and heavily amplified instrumentals to improvisation. The ensemble has experimented the boundaries of concert framing and sound installations through a unique use of time and space, each varying based on the venue and context.
The group is made up of distinctive musicians who truly love contemporary art music. Alongside their classic instruments (flute, clarinet, percussion, piano, guitar, violin, and cello), the Curious Chamber Players are particularly recognised for incorporating sound objects and unconventional musical instruments into their artistic creativity, including items like balloons, taro root, beckoning cat, mannequins, and miso soup, among others. Experimentation is always at the core, and previous projects have involved the integration of other artistic mediums such as video improvisation, theatre, Tarot meditation, dance, poetry, and fragrance.
The Curious Chamber Players have showcased their performances at contemporary music festivals including Gaudeamus Muziekweek Utrecht, IMPULS Graz, Time of Music Viitasaari, Darmstädter Ferienskurs, Ultraschall Berlin, Klang avant garde Copenhagen, Huddersfield, Contrasti Trento, Extension Paris, and DCMF Daegu, receiving critical acclaim and infusing their unique sense of spontaneity and identity into every project they pursue. In recent years, the ensemble has undertaken extensive international tours across South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the USA.
Always embodying a youthful spirit, the Curious Chamber Players have collaborated with younger generation composers from around the globe.
The Curious Chamber Players are supported by Kulturrådet and Konstnärsnämden.
