Concept
contour
/ˈkɒntʊə/
noun
-
An outline especially of a curving or irregular figure.
-
A emphasis of the quality of an outline or a bounding surface as being smooth, jagged, curving, or sharply angled.
Synonym: outline, profile, silhouette, figure, shape, form, lineation

The human body consists of extremely complex forms and intricate patterns. The irregular texture of human skin, numerous wrinkles, and the imperfect symmetry of body components placement all imply a sense of complex rhythm, form, structure, and even a sense of movement and drama. The texture of a musical instrument or a sound object also creates a very unique contour line that symbolises knowledge, intuition, and meticulous calculation with an eye toward design and curiosity. The world today shifts rapidly, and the contour lines of all matters - including people, infrastructure, social identities, borderlines etc - are all swaying back and forth like a pendulum. The project also focuses on the contour lines of art works by New York based Swedish artist Barbro Östelin.
The swaying contour lines of the world are interpreted by Curious Chamber Players and dancer/choreographer Momoka Kihara (Japanese dance group NEMO) through 4 world premiere works created for the body, flute, clarinet, tooth brushes, baking forms, percussion, and conductor.
